Impermanence: In Bloom.Raven and Rafflesia.Loss is an integral part of life. We live, we love, we lose: friends and family to distance, disagreement, or death. The journey through life brings many losses, some easier to bear, and others that devastate, but still we continue. And, though we lose, we also gain and learn: new friends, families of choice, new experiences, new lessons. For even in loss, can we grow and bloom..Raven skull and Rafflesia. The Rafflesia is a very large “flower” that grows in Southeast Asia and gives off a corpse-like odor. It’s not entirely considered a flower since it has no leaves, no roots, no stem, and is incapable of photosynthesis due to it’s lack of chlorophyll..The Rafflesia is named for Sir Stamford Raffles, British statesman and founder of the colony of Singapore. The Rafflesia is a parasitic plant and considered a symbol of death..First time playing with gouache for this piece, and there is a steep learning curve! Any one else paint with gouache?
