medeae:Wilfred Owen, from “Dulce et Decorum Est"This was one of the first passages of poetry I knew by heart - I knew it before I even learned English, or indeed Latin, but it’s meaning is still ingrained in every fiber of my being. I can still hear my dad spit out the lines with a vitriol I had never heard before, and somehow I knew what they meant. I have never been able to witness any nationalist sentiment without feeling the words “the old lie” whispering through my brain, and I wish Wilfred Owen knew how much his words shaped the person I am today. -- source link
