desertdollranch:The planting season is over, and the summer term at Powderkeg school has begun. Kirsten has chosen a shady spot under a pine tree to work on her reading lesson and eat her lunch. She likes to admire the colorful designs on her Rewards of Merit, and trace her finger along her name written in Miss Winston’s curly handwriting. Her lunch foods are one of Kirsten’s oldest homemade accessories. I made all four pieces when I was 8 or 9 from clay and paint. The napkin is a fabric scrap colored with pens. More recently, I made her tine (lunch box) from a baking powder container that I cut to size and painted. She had a real wooden tine years ago that I found at Provo Craft and decorated, but it’s been missing for a long time. Her school bag is made from a scrap of calico. I printed out a few pages from her reader, mostly the pages with the cute poems and stories, and bound it with staples. The Rewards of Merit are also printed. The ruler and slate are scrap wood I found, and the slate pencil is clay. -- source link
