yorkshirewench:There are few things in life more satisfying than a great TV series with a perfect ending. This scene is, yes, nearly perfect. But it is very very important that it is not the ending, that the show ends not with this but with that chosen-family scene, not goodbye but ‘Hello.’ River and Stevie yes, yes and always yes, but also River and Ira and Marianne and Hank and Chrissie. That is what makes this show so transcendently affirming: that there is this beautiful, beautiful scene of reconciliation, but that that is not it, that is not all, it is not over. There is the kind of repair that is this ecstatic dancing, and there is the kind of repair that is being casually handed someone else’s child. This one intimacy is singular and irreplaceable, but it is not all there is. Life offers the next thing, and the next thing is beautiful and warm and whole. We are all shattered, all uneasily-reassembled patchwork things, but the patching sometimes holds. -- source link
