uesp:“We meet again, mortal, for we have met before, whether you know it or not. When you mutter in your sleep, you speak to me. When you waken wet with sweat, you’ve just left my house. I dwell in your dreams; I savor your nightmares. Now, you will serve me.” – VaerminaVaermina, Vaernima, Vaermina the Gifter, Mistress of Dreams and Nightmares, the Weaver of the Panopoly, the Dream of a Thousand Dreamers, Revelation of Endless Elation, Beacon for Lost Souls, Bliss for Strong Souls, and Madness for Weak Souls. Her sphere is the realm of dreams, nightmares, and is believed to also include torture. Of all the Daedra, she is arguably the most familiar to all mortals. To dream is to visit her Plane of Oblivion, Quagmire. Vaermina is considered to be one of the more “demonic” of the Daedric Princes. Her regular interaction with nearly every mortal deserves a particular note, as she influences the everyday life of nearly every living being. From her Citadel at the heart of her Realm, she reaches out to Mundus to steal the memories of the sleeping, leaving behind visions of horror and despair in their place, or simply nightmares. Her motivation for collecting memories is unknown. While heavily associated with nightmares, she is also associated with more pleasant dreams. She is believed to grant some of her followers the ability to enter others dreams themselves, and they have been known to assist people get over major grievances.Vaermina took a mortal lover who spent his days lounging in his home, when he wasn’t asleep. She appeared to him, and named him her “Supernal Dreamer”, who would go onto lead a major cult in her name. Vaermina has also been known to associate with Molag Bal, who after admitting that while he does not have a cure for Vampirism, she does, which he managed to obtain from her “after some discussion”. During a twenty-year long bet she made with Sheogorath that she lost, she was forced to accept that madness is an inherit part of dreaming. For her personal followers, she has been known to grant various visions, dreams, and nightmares of all kinds. She has personally expressed pride in her followers for artistic achievements, and can appear in person in dreams to guide them along their way. Vaermina’s Plane of Oblivion is Quagmire, also known as the Dreamstride. It is a realm where reality is constantly shifting to different and newer terrors, marked by lightning strikes. While mortals visit it while asleep, it is possible to travel there while awake through the use of magic, and witness nightmares unfolding in the waking world.Vaermina’s best known artifact is the infamous Skull of Corruption, which creates a clone of whoever it is used on, that is also inherently hostile towards the original copy. There is a story of dubious origin of a clone created with the Skull killing their original version, before stealing the Skull of Corruption for themselves, creating a clone of the person who cloned them, and effectively replacing the original persons after the second clone dispatched the original’s creator. The Skull of Corruption itself shares Vaermina’s hunger for memories, and has also been known to cause unceasing nightmares for those in its vicinity. Beyond that, she is also known for the Orb of Vaermina, which is used for scrying. A follower of Boethiah came into possession of the Orb, and used it to assist in the capture of the Imperial City during the Great War.Vaermina’s appearance is usually that of an older woman, usually in robes, and carrying a staff. She has been depicted wearing her hair in different styles, and wearing a variety of different masks or jewelry. -- source link
