swprequelframes:Something people often tend to forget is the fact that George Lucas didn’t originally start out making narrative films. Originally, in his film student days at USC, Lucas was primarily interested in experimental and documentary films. While Lucas certainly adjusted himself to narrative film over time, he was still keeping bits and pieces of his former experimental years within his successfulö mainstream films. One of those signs is the Lightsaber Fight between Anakin and Dooku in Episode II. This combat tends to be overlooked by many, mainly because it’s neither filled with lots of dialogue nor does is stick out in terms of athletics. It works on another level and is therefore nonetheless, as another approach, to be admired. There is a former-Jedi-and-now-Sith fighting an about-to-be-Sith-but-still-Jedi within a sea of blue and red lights - created by their own lightsabers - as past, present and future merge into one moment of infinite possibilities. It’s a fight relying solely on purely cinematic techniques, having been realized through competent lighting and editing. Are we going to see anything comparably experimental and purely cinematic in the future Star Wars films? -- source link
