Decorative Sunday: Beauty in UseToday we are showcasing the dazzling patterns and colors ofthe book of poetry Beautyin Use by SandraMcPherson. The book was printed at the Claire Van Vliet’sJanus Pressin Newark, Vermont in 1997 in an edition of 150 copies. The book’s non-adhesivestructure and design are by Claire Van Vliet and executed with the help of AudreyHolden and Lulie Larus. The box that the book is housed in was made by JudiConant and Mary Richardson in Guildhall, Vermont. The papers are JapaneseChiyogami, Fabriano MacGregor-Vinzani, Strathmore, Janus, Barcham Green, andTwinrocker (no scrap ever too small). Each of Sandra McPherson’s poems about quilts are accompaniedby a colorful and complex paper quilt. The unexpected color and pattern combinationsmimic the beauty of cloth quilts that utilize scrap material to create a beautifulart object that can be used in everyday life.
