New Book November! As always, there’s more info on each book under the cutThe Factory Witches of Lowell by C. S. Malerich is a novella about female factory workers turning to magic and a strike for fair conditions. This seems like a really cool idea, and one about seizing power and the means of production. Plus, you know, magic!Master of One by Jaida Jones & Dani Bennett I’ve already talked up a lot on this site because I snagged an ARC earlier this year. Basically, this is a fantastic book that starts with a magical heist and then turns into a sort of Avatar-style search for the chosen ones meant to bond with/weild ancient fey weapons. It also has some amazing representation! I’ve really been looking forward to getting my hands on a physical copy! Those Who Prey by Jennifer Moffett is a college-based thriller/murder mystery about a freshman being seduced into a cult. I love college stories, and especially love ones where freshman year is rough (we all need representation, right?), so add on top of that some creepy manipulative culty scenarios and a dead body and I am sold.Soulswift by Megan Bannen I also snagged an ARC of a few months ago, so I’ve already read. This is a fantasy built on rival religions and does some cool deep diving into the whole myth of the “heathen” and women’s roles in religion. However, what really sold this book for me was the romance which usually isn’t the focal point for me! But this is some top tier enemies to lovers with some fake dating thrown in there too, all while also involving one of them being possessed with what’s either a goddess or a demon. How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black is a prequel story for her Folk of Air series. This is a gorgeous, illustrated story of Cardan pre-The Cruel Prince, and I’m really looking forward to looking at the beautiful art, and also returning to Holly Black’s Faerie for a little while.Ruinsong by Julia Ember involves song-based magic, so obviously I need to read it. There’s also a sapphic friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance, and some cool rebellion! -- source link
