Roman Calendar - July 15: Transvectio equitum Annual parade of young men of Roman equites class through Rome. Parade commemorated Roman victory at the battle of Lake Regilius (496 BCE) but it was also a sort of military review of Roman youth. The procession commenced from the temple of Mars on Via Appia and stopped at the temple of Castor and Pollux on Forum Romanum. Tradition began in 304 BCE but it waned during the Republican era. Augustus revived the ceremony and during imperial era it developed into a quite a spectacle. According to sources some 5000 young equites participated in the parade. photo: MANN, Naples, July 2019 -- source link
