Inktober 6th – Western Woolly Lemur!More back-logged Inktober uploads – but this one’s unique in that I actually DID forget to draw it before midnight on the 6th, so it’s also my first missed inktober-drawing day!! NOOOO!!In lieu of my forgetting to draw, I decided to ink a lemur thats’ existence is often forgotten: the Western Woolly Lemur (Avahi occidentalis)!!Fact #6!Woolly lemurs, also known as Avahis, are unique in that they are the only nocturnal primates that are strictly herbivores! They do not rely on ANY insects or protein for their diets, which is virtually unheard-of amongst nighttime animals, and especially so among nocturnal primates! What’s more is that this diet consists primarily of leaves, not fruit or berries, which is equally as unusual among other plant-eating lemurs! However, the downside to this incredibly low-nutrition diet is that these lemurs don’t get much energy from their diets. They spend most of their time being stationary: napping in tree holes, resting on branches, and generally just being lazy until they are forced to actually use some of their energy! If you love lemurs (and, c'mon– who doesn’t??) and would like to help with their conservation, consider:1. Raise awareness!! Spread the word about how badly these guys need help!2. DRAW LEMURS!! Join us for #Hallowleem and the #WorldLemurFestival by drawing a lemur & sharing it online (along with information about how endangered they are!)3. DONATE! The Lemur Conservation Network is a great way to look up different organizations, so you can find the perfect one to donate to!HALLOWLEEM 2016!Day 5 – Day 6 – Day 7Art © Zahzu -- source link
