Adrian Castro - Bronze medal for Poland at the Paralympic Games in Rio 20169th medal won for Poland
Adrian Castro - Bronze medal for Poland at the Paralympic Games in Rio 20169th medal won for Poland this Paralympic Games came on Monday, September 12th. Adrian Castro, who is a current World Champion in wheelchair sabre fencing, in his final fight had to face off another polish champion, Grzegorz Pluta (seen in the background of the last picture) - his long time friend, mentor and soon to be father-in-law. They both joked, that whomever wins this fight, pays for the wedding. Also, both of them didn’t count on getting this far, as Pluta has been recovering from serious illness since may, and Castro battled with fever the morning before tournament - thus he dedicated his medal to the medics of their team. It’s miracle, they put me back on wheels - he joked. Adrian Castro became paraplegic in 2004, after breaking his spine in motorbike accident. At rehabilitation camp soon after, he had opportunity to try out wheelchair fencing and got into it. It didn’t stop him, that the closest sport club was in Warsaw, he kept travelling over 200 km there every week just for fencing. His dedication and hard work paied off. Source -- source link
