perplexingly:Muslim knight with her Slavic loveIt’s making rounds again so I thought I’d add a couple words because it caused a bit of controversy back when I first posted this. It’s true that the Golden Horde were invaders of the Eastern Europe, however there were also those that either escaped the Golden Horde, or were taken captive, and settled on the Polish-Lithuanian lands, contributing to the Crown’s military but without religious assimilation. We called them Lipka Tatars. If you can read Polish, there’s an interesting page outlining the history of Islam in Poland-Lithuania, giving specific dates of the Tatar settlement and battles they participated in.It’s also important to note that in 1573 there was an act granting religious freedom within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. -- source link
