texaspridemileswide:Texas is my home and I love it with all my heart.I just moved from Alabama to Texas and lemme break this down a bit:Friends and family: Whatever.No city/state income tax: Very true, but there are much more things the government mandates. For example, vehicle inspections. It’s all revenue.Blue Bell ice cream: Meh, ice cream is ice cream. It would have been better to list HEB.Kolaches: Hotdogs/sausage baked in bread. Oh yea, that’s only a Texas thing… NOT.Diversity: Uh, you sure? I have seen maybe 10 black people here in the 4 months I’ve been here. If you aren’t white, or Hispanic, you aren’t in Texas (at least N. Houston)5 bedroom houses/3 bedroom apartments: Aside from having those everywhere, I can’t find even a trailer for less than $800/month. A shock to a guy used to paying $400/month for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house.Backyard pool and garden: Again, everywhere. And again, ridiculously expensive.Crawfish boils: Better in Louisiana.Cowboy hats: Again, everywhere. Also, penis extension.Watching the Cowboys, Rockets, Astros, Cougars at home… no thank you.Saying hello by saying “howdy”: I heard that all the time in Alabama, but not once here. So yea.Lone Star beer: EwwwAstrodome: MehSouthern accents: Heard just about anywhere, even up north. Also, irritating to the ears.Southern hospitality: There is that, but again, not a Texas only thing.The verb “fixin to”: Is stupid and found all over the southern US.Slime in the ice machine: NoHouston livestock show and rodeo: Ok, this one is a good one.Tex-Mex with bottomless chips and salsa: Idk if people know this, but just about every Mexican restaurant gives unlimited chips and salsa. Not knocking it, it’s awesome.Hunkering down/hurricane parties: Have you been to Florida?Sweet tea: I love sweet tea 110%, but haven’t found ANY good sweet tea since being here. Even the restaurants drop the ball in this regard.“We’ll save you money”: Where? As I said before, it’s just a shuffle card game. No, you aren’t paying income tax, but you are still paying the state revenue in other places.Shiner beer is considered a domestic: MehDeep fried anything: yea, pretty good (aside from being bad for you), but you do realize you can get deep fried crap anywhere, right?Saddle shaped disco balls? What? First off, who has disco balls still and lastly, what? This is stupid.Loose second amendment laws: Ok, this is a flat out lie. Not only is it illegal to open carry a handgun, you have to jump through hoops to get a permit. Of all the gun friendly states, Texas is near the bottom.Texas bluebonnets: WhateverClean Downtown streets: Have you been to Houston? It’s a literal sewer.Secondhand plural known as “Ya’ll”: Again, not Texas centric.Six Flags parks: They have those in other states (and they suck)Ranches: Uh, they exist outside of Texas… a shocker, I know.We put the “yeehaw” in your motor and transmission: *FACEPALM*Central a/c: Pretty sure I had that in every state I’ve lived in.Texas grapefruits: Meh6 lane highways: Washington has a bigger one (lol)Over 300 miles of gulf coast line: Been to Florida? They also have Atlantic coast line too (GASP)Gun ranges: Why is this on the list? Texas isn’t the only place with gun ranges and it doesn’t even have the best ones.Teams of Houston past (Comets and Oilers): …Sucked.BBQ: Yea, better in Louisiana.Time to reflect when sitting in traffic: This isn’t a selling point, Texas. I hate traffic and it’s HORRIBLE in Houston.Floating the river: *sigh*Micheladas: MehSun tanning: Putting the crappy skin aside, the sun shines elsewhere too, Texas.Texas history: Ok, I love Texas history. A+Alamo drafthouse: MehShipley’s donuts: Dunkin’s better.Space center (Houston, I assume): Ok, another good one. A+Whataburger: IS TRASH! Jack in the Box is WAY better. Get it straight. lolSuntans: Mentioned above.Pho: ??HEB: Yes, ok. The HEB stores are FANTASTIC. A++Now I don’t say these things to knock Texas, it’s a great state. I say them to try and put an end to the myth of Texas being a mecca for fun/guns/freedom/Conservatives because it’s not.
