Woud have liked to add more to this one…but my laptop nearly died from that. Also, bit of storytime. Mind you though, I’m not much of a writer.„Now, be quick on your feet! See that one just now? Quickly, before the little thing sheds all its contents unto the sands.“ Sahandra surely noticed, the damn thing nearly collided with her as it came down. Turning around, she spotted the little miscreant on the ground just a small distance by the rock pillar her teacher was perched on.The little thing in question was a rather large book, nearly a tome by size, fluttering on the desert rocks like a stranded fish, elongated bookmarks swirling on the ground. Or lashing whips, as Sahandra knew from earlier experience. Her hands still hurt from the paper cuts the last panicked tome had left as she had tried to pick it up. Sure, she had bandaged her fingers now, but compared to her teacher she felt rather vulnerable. Not everyone in the library had fingers armored with hardened chitin. The lion girl considered herself a good and able librarian but this…was just beyond ridiculous! Who ever heard of hunting down books like this? Why would this ever be a duty for someone like her and why oh why wasn’t she inside the warmth of the archive, snuggled between sheets and reading that new arrival? Slowly, she slowly reached out to the crashed tome, trying scoop it up before it lost more of its pages. It was still a curious thing to her, how these books managed to stay in the air at all. “Come here, you rascal…I won’t hurt you. Just calm down, calm down…Now, don’t try to hide in that crack…oh for-”———–Meanwhile, the scorpion woman atop of the stone pillar overlooking this stretch of the valley watched her new student with both amusement and care. The novice had done quite well in the archive handling the books entrusted to her. Her first harvest night, though? Turned out she underestimated the new arrivals and their tantrums quite a bit. One ancient tome, the first haul of this night nearly mutilated her hand as it was trashing around confused and scared. Though Sahandra took more care now, Ysimsiz wondered how long it might take the young librarian to get used to this duty. After all, the valley these days was chock full with books just like these. Could be an entire library abandoned again, just like three years ago. Ysimsiz still wondered why exactly the tomes found their way here time and time again. Nevertheless, it was dangerous to just leave them outside like this. Cruel, too. Over the decades, the forgotten books just piled up and the library was founded. Sometimes the little things just had to be calmed down. Reading usually did the trick, troubling as it was with the more ancient ones… -- source link
