Day 22 of 30 days of my favorite scary movies goes to the 2007 Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino double-feature Grindhouse. If a gif of Rose McGowan mowing down zombie soldiers with her machine gun leg doesn’t embody what I love about this film, then nothing does. Grindhouse is a near-perfect homage to the B-grade action and horror exploitation films that kept dingy, late-night theaters in business for decades. It is over the top in every way, often very cleverly so. Death Proof is a decent enough movie on its own, but for me the real fun here is in the crazy, gory zombie flick Planet Terror. The cast (including Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Josh Brolin, and Marley Shelton) really seem to get the vibe that Rodriguez is going for here, and play it up to the hilt. I really enjoy the little touches here from scratched film to whole missing scenes. Also, I can’t say enough good things about the hilarious (then) fictitious trailers sandwiched between the two films. -- source link
