docgold13:365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…April 6th - Orphan Cassandra Cain is the daughter of two notorious assassins, David Cain and Lady Shiva. She was trained from birth to be a master combatant and assassin. Cassandra’s father trained her in extreme isolation, keeping her away from human speech and raising her with the language of motion and violence. Cain’s notion was to prime the language centers of Cassandra’s mind to interpret physical movement as a language. This gifted Cassandra with superb body-reading abilities and made her a near peerless hand-to-hand combatant. As a byproduct of this upbringing, however, Cassandra has had to contend with substantial speech and writing impediments. In her adolescents, Cassandra escaped her father and made her way to Gotham City. There she foiled a plot to kill Commissioner Gordon. Batman took her in and Cassandra became the new Batgirl. Later, Bruce Wayne formerly adopted Cassandra as his daughter. Cassandra later gave up to role of Batgirl to Stephanie Brown and took on the new alias of The Black Bat, operating as a member of Batman Inc. located in Mainland China. In the Nu52 universe Cassandra had adopted the moniker of The Orphan and aspects of her origin have been altered. She was reintroduced as a reluctant assassin under the control of a diabolical individual known only as ‘Mother.’ Harper Roe and Stephanie Brown were able to free The Orphan’s from Mother’s thrall and she once more became an ally to the Batman Family. A version of Cassandra Cain appeared in the movie Harley Quinn: The Birds of Prey where she was portrayed by actress Ella Jay Basco. The character first appeared in the pages of Batman #567 (1999). -- source link
