Dear Friends,I hopeyour holiday season is off to a glorious start! Now thatit is officially winter, and I have completed three and a half months asour Museum’s Shelby White and Leon Levy Director, I wanted to share a littleupdate. You have been absolutely wonderful in supporting me as wego from zero to sixty. And you might be wondering, “Hey Anne, what’sreally going on over there?” The answer is, “a whole lot!” Firstand foremost, in addition to managing the day to day activities of one of thebiggest cultural institutions in the world, I have been LISTENING—toour Members, friends, and artists about hopes for our Museum. I’veheard a lot about what folks love (for example our education programming, special exhibitions, permanent collections, and our commitment to inclusion). I also heard a lot about what you’d like to see change. And why wait?! I think you will be pleased to know that there are already a number ofchanges underway.Firstand foremost, we must expand our curatorial team and bring artistic excellenceto new heights. I hope you have seen the news that Nancy Spector has beennamed our new Deputy Director and Chief Curator. From here we can count on atrailblazing future that charts new territory for our Museum and in the field, and explore the important questions of the role of art and museums for the 21stcentury. Many ofyou have told me that you want our collections galleries refreshed, and Iagree. While it normally takes museums years to reinstall its permanentcollections, we decided to jump right in. So, as I write this, our EgyptianGallery is under renovation, with European and American galleries to follow. The goal is to create more space to see more works, and to explore ourcollections from a fresh lens.I hopeyou’ve noticed that we have a new and terrific partner, our caterer GreatPerformances. Together, we are working on healthy, locally-sourced, andpalette-exciting menus that reflect the interests and diversity of ourcommunity in artistic ways. To behonest, these are just a few of the changes in the works. Iwill keep you posted as we progress. In the meantime, expect to see a lotof energy at the Brooklyn Museum in 2016, and so many reasons to join usin person. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your continuingfriendship and tremendous support, and wish you and your loved ones thehappiest of holidays.Talk soon,Anne Pasternak -- source link
