To close out Black History Month, we would like you to meet Dr. William W. Cordozo, a medical doctor whose research shaped our understanding of sickle cell anemia, a disease which predominately occurs in individuals of African descent.Dr. Cordozo provided an in-depth analysis of sickle cell anemia which was severely lacking at the time. His research provided evidence on how the disease is inherited and that individuals who have sickle cell were not all anemic. Dr. Cordozo findings were published in 1937 titled, “Immunological Studies in Sickle Cell Anemia” in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine.Dr. Cordozo’s research extended to gastrointestinal disorders and Hodgkin’s disease in children. His exceptional work provided key insight on health issues afflicting African American communities. Thank you Dr. William W. Cardozo for your dedication and your contribution to science!#BlackHistoryMonth2019 #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackScientists #VanguardSTEM -- source link
