The Avenue of the BaobabsIf you’re to travel between Morondava and Belon’I Tsiribihina in Madagascar, be sure to take The Avenue of the Baobabs. The simple dirt road that connects the two cities is made rather extraordinary by the presence of these magnificent trees. Travellers from across the globe are drawn to this 260 metre stretch with Baobab trees along either side of the road.Baobab trees can grow to heights of 30 metres (98 feet) while their diameters can reach 11 meters (36 feet). Their circumferences have also been known to stretch around to 50 meters (160 feet). Some of these trees have also been found to be as old as 800 years old.The Baobabs found along the Avenue are of the species Adansonia grandidieri which are *endemic to Madagascar. Currently, their conservations status is “threatened”. This is largely due to the gradual expansion of agricultural land.*endemic -native or restricted to a certain place-Renesh TBe sure to check out our other articles regarding these awesome trees:Baobab – Upside down tree -Greg Aegishttp://on.fb.me/1EUrhVNBaobab tree-Jeanhttp://on.fb.me/1NtRbo1Baobab prison-JBBhttp://on.fb.me/1Ddv83WImage Source:Gavinevanshttp://bit.ly/1CCx05NFurther reading/references:http://bit.ly/1ysqtFAhttp://bit.ly/1HWF7NNhttp://bit.ly/1EpWu8p -- source link
