Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa). A few weeks ago we posted a picture of the caterpillar and today I came across the butterfly. The mourning cloak uses willows and elms as host plants to lay it’s eggs. So if you ever see one, it’s safe to assume that there are willows or elms close by since they never travel far from their host plant.
