La scala, Palazzo Venezia, Roma, 2019.Palazzo Venezia is a venerable building built in grand style in the 15th century for an archbishop and cardinal. It was expanded when he became Pope Paul II. A little later it was used to house the Venetian Embassy to the Papacy and thus its name. The stairway, however, is much newer. It was built for Benito Mussolini who used the palazzo as his headquarters in Rome and wanted a grander route from the entry courtyard to his quarters on the first floor (American usage second floor). The building houses the Museo National del Palazzo Venezia with a good collection of medieval art. -- source link
