The train from Djibouti town heads for the southern border, end of the line after Somalis cut the rails to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. Djibouti’s economy was derailed, losing half a million dollars a month in customs duties from the railway, which carried 60 percent of Ethiopia’s foreign trade. The railroad has since been reopened.
