shiraglassman:jamminlucario:bisexualbaker:[Image Description: Violin-themed dragon, with a split bow for wings, holding a cake of rosin]For shiraglassman; inspired by this exchange. (Original can be seen there; most notable difference is probably that I forgot which way the f-hole was supposed to face - and that sounds way dirtier than it should, I know.)String Orchestra Dragons live in mountains and valleys. They especially love pine forests, since rosin is a favorite treat of theirs and they will eat it like candy. It helps keep their wings in good condition, strengthening the individual strands, which they spread in order to fly.Their voices have a very musical quality that is difficult for humans to mimic, and music is a very important part of their culture. A string orchestra dragon chorus is often cited as among the most beautiful sounds in the world. Opera is particularly popular with string orchestra dragons, and they have many epics about their history and dreams.String orchestra dragons come in four main size categories: Violin, viola, cello, and bass. Small viola dragons can be difficult to tell from violin dragons until they begin to speak, viola dragons having a slightly more mellow and deeper vocal quality. In addition, violin and viola dragons have a patch of guard skin on their upper left thighs, though the purpose of this (be it protective, decorative, or something else entirely) is unknown, nor why it is only found on the two smaller varieties.String orchestra dragons are born with perfect pitch. Unlike most other dragon species, their horns are not entirely solid or stationary. When an orchestra dragon sings a note that is out of tune, it will frown in annoyance and one of its horns will “tighten” or “loosen”, which tends to mollify the dragon, who will go on to sing in tune.In times of stress or danger, string orchestra dragons can take the form of musical instruments, a shape they can hold for decades, or even centuries. When they feel safe, they will relax into their true form. Occasionally, a string orchestra dragon in musical instrument shape will be found by humans; some “stolen” string instruments are thought to actually be string orchestra dragons who have returned to their true shape and gone home.bless this, two of my favorite thingsyeah, this is amazing and needs to become famous or on a shirt -- source link
