SEA avant le déluge, 9 March 2020. It is difficult to comprehend that this was taken only three months ago. It seems like almost a lifetime! Changed planes at Sea-Tac enroute to RNO and was amazed by the lack of passengers in early March. If the US had only been lucky enough to have had a competent government, restrictions on travel would have been in place by mid February, if not earlier, and I would not have made the trip. Instead we lived in a bubble of ignorance and, at least for those of us who are not complete pessimists, with the belief that Covid-19 was a small-scale and localized problem (albeit one of the localities was the Seattle area, but I had booked my ticket months earlier, Alaska Air does not offer too many options between where I live and Reno, and it was a late night flight). If proper measures to control the pandemic had been in effect, I would have missed a fun meeting and some great road trip days in Nevada, but of vastly greater importance between 60-100,000 deaths as well as huge, if unmeasurable, amounts of suffering could have been prevented. The first half of 2020 and those in positions of power who allowed the pandemic to evolve without the precautions a reasonable and informed government with a competent leader would have imposed, will long live in infamy. -- source link
