justagreekfilm:Not greek films, with greek themes:Medea (1969) , by Pier Paolo PasoliniPasolini’s Medea is based on Euripide’s Medea. In the title role stars opera singer Maria Callas.Exploiting the mythical elements of the story to create symbols, the film explores the absurdity of the human psyche and its desires when those reach their extremes. The film is characterized by a strong visual world, both manifested in the excellent production design, and the careful performances by the actors. There is not much dialogue, instead all the characters express themselves through their image. Elements from both archaeological and ethnological studies from the Mediterranean are utilized to recreate a form of antiquity that is both ancient and medieval, the sort of mythic past that is just a breath away from the contemporary audience. I don’ t think the film needs further introduction, it’s a powerful intellectual experience for anyone who wants to watch it.You can find various versions online and on youtube, with subtitles or not. The film is in italian. -- source link
