maswartz: annotated-dc: An unexpected change to the Superman mythos was introduced in Frank Miller’s Superman: Year One this week. Namely: That baby Clark essentially mindcontrolled the Kents to be instinctively protective of him, which is… definitely a thing. Yeah, I know, I know. Alternate universe, doesn’t have to conform to prior versions of Superman (plus Miller’s Superman has always been on the verge of fashy behaviour anyway, like a lot of his characters)… It’s just kind of depressing if Miller thinks that this is the only logical way that the Kents would adopt Clark. That they weren’t good people (albeit technically ones who think that they’re guilty of kidnapping until they confirm the alien thing in some stories), it’s that they were “softly“ compelled to look after baby Clark due to some invasive creepiness. If Miller thinks that this is something true of Superman in general, or THINKS that it should be true, it’s kind of up there with Zack Snyder telling people that anyone who doesn’t think that Batman kills people and steals from his company to fund his crimefighting is infantile. …THE FUCK ‘Cause what the Superman mythos needed was a weird Midwich Cuckoos thing going on. Albeit without Martha being impregnated by aliens. -- source link
