bountyofthepast:History Fact 5/100 - Hats of the Royal Navy The Bicorn ( bicorne ) - A two pronged hat widely adopted in the 1790’s by the American and British armies. It was worn ‘fore and aft’ by most officers, including Navy Lieutenants, and in the ‘athwart’ style by Captains and Admirals. The Top Hat - By the 1800’s, sailors and midshipmen wore top round hats made of felt. Some also wore a hat called a ‘tarpot’. -- source link
