youthincare:penndoodle:the-anarcho-raver:youthincare:[ image description is screenshot of post that says, “amazon is extending its prime day because people supporting amazon workers’ strike are hurting its bottom line. keep it up!” ] The people have more power than they even know. I really, really hate to be that guy, but this is false.Amazon decided in advance to have Prime Day for more than one day, and sales this year have beaten last year’s records. From Fortune.com: “Amazon says this year’s Prime Day was the ” biggest global shopping event in Amazon history,” with consumers purchasing more than 100 million products. Sales, even when adjusted for the 36-hour period, surpassed Cyber Monday, Black Friday and 2017’s Prime Day (which, itself, improved upon the 2016 event by 60%).“Second, the strike isn’t multinational, but in Madrid, Spain. There was a call to strike in May, and it ends today. From US News and Reuters:“Spanish labor unions have called on around 1,000 Amazon employees to walk out for three days next week in a dispute over what it says are efforts to reduce workers’ rights. The strike will take place at the San Fernando warehouse on the outskirts of Madrid, Amazon’s biggest in Spain, on July 16, 17 and 18, to coincide with a 1-½ day sale on the platform.Douglas Harper, a representative of the Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) union told Reuters the union primarily objected to wage cuts, working conditions and restrictions on time off.“I’d love for Amazon to go in the red, and I’d love to see Bezos’ stupid face when he sees the fires of his eternal damnation, but let’s not go around spreading fake information. That doesn’t help anyone. Some more facts about the strike that help clarify this situation more clearly and honestly. I think it’s worth mentioning too that supposedly the fact that they’re doing the Prime event longer, not because they did so well financially, but basically they were gonna do it regardless of how much they made because it was a marketing ploy to act like Prime Day is being stretched because of so much success. There’s a lot going on here but right now, let’s seriously support our Madrid strikers!! By any means possible! -- source link
