Salt stormThe Salares of the Andean Altiplano are found in several countries, notably Bolivia, Argentina and Chile (see http://tinyurl.com/lffcs52 andhttp://tinyurl.com/ls2kfpj). The most famous is Uyuni (see http://tinyurl.com/kdh679q) in Bolivia, which partially fills during the rainy season and then evaporates in the dry. When the winds howl during the dry season, loose crystals of salt are picked up, forming a haboob with a different twist (and sting) to the usual sand. I don’t know what its like to be in one, but I imagine crying eyes and feeling every tiny cut on my body would be a part of it.
