heytoyourmamanem:Since today is Women’s Equality Day, here is one of the black women who participated in the suffrage movement. Mary Eliza Mahoney (May 7, 1845 or April 16, 1845 - January 4, 1926) was the first African American professionally trained nurse in the United States. Mahoney was a pioneer who worked tirelessly to create opportunities for other black women to become nurses and to raise the status of all nurses, regardless of color. She was also an activist for women’s right to vote and is credited as one of the first women to register and vote in Boston, Massachusetts in 1920.Photo source: Wikimedia -- source link
