ball-eis-korakas:The Skåäng Runestone(Södermanland, Sweden).Old Norse used two runic alphabets– the elder futhark, which first appeared around the 1stcentury AD and was fully-developed by 400 AD; and the youngerfuthark, which replaced it around 750 AD. The elder futhark has 24runes, and the younger futhark has 16.This runestone has inscriptions inboth alphabets. The longer inscription, inside the serpent, wascarved sometime during the Viking Age, in the Old Norse language andusing the younger futhark. The central inscription, which wasn’tnoticed when the runestone was first discovered, was carved duringthe Iron Age, in the Proto-Norse language and using the elderfuthark. -- source link
