celticpyro:the-penultimate-superbeans:celticpyro:Eh, “hate” is a strong word. They’re enemies and rivals with different ideals as heroes but that doesn’t preclude them getting along. You have to remember that hating and despising your enemies because you tried to kill them/they tried to kill you just isn’t a concept to Cu Chulainn. Death just isn’t that big of a deal to him so he sees no problem in trying to kill you one day (or alternatively, you nearly killing him) and going out for drinks or fishing the next. Maybe it’s because he’s a warrior and dying is just an occupational hazard so it’s just something he takes very lightly most of the time. And meanwhile, there have been times when Emiya goes along with it. It’s more prominent in the Emiya Gohan spinoff but for the most part Archer doesn’t have that much of a reason to outright hate Lancer. Heck, the times Lancer actually was ready to kill him were because Archer specifically either did something to piss him off (betraying his Master, telling him to give up his pride WHICH IS CU’S WHOLE REASON FOR BEING A HERO, that “Feed it to the dogs” comment, etc) or because Lancer was under the effects of a weakening Command Seal at the time. So yes, they’re enemies, and i’m not really sure if either of them would genuinely consider a romantic attraction to the other, but Lancer and Archer getting along and being chummy is entirely canon! Not to mention hate/rival ships aren’t exactly uncommon in fanfic. Look at Naruto/Sasuke, Bakugou/Deku, Kim Possible/Shego, Goku/Vegeta or Sora/Riku. Some of the most popular ships in their respective fandoms lol, and all born from a healthy dislike of each other.Yeah and I usually can’t stand it because it’s typically with characters who blatantly can’t stand each other and would never be friends. At least with Archer and Lancer they can get along in canon and the worst I can say is “I kind of wish that were me instead of Archer” XDLike out of all the ships made from rivals this one bothers me the least because unlike most cases they really do take breaks from trying to kill each other and just hang out together. That, and there’s no ‘power imbalance’ like (for example) how Bakugou bullied and emotionally abused Deku for years so playing that off as sexual tension really rubs me the wrong way. Meanwhile Cu and Archer screwing with each other is already canon and they can both give as good as they get.Basically I don’t ship it but out of all the non-canon slash pairings this is somehow the least annoying.I don’t blame you there. I’ve never understood hateships myself either -- source link
