Epidermal Protection. Our skin is our largest organ. It is our first line of defense against disease and trauma. For many nudists it is a statement of who they are. We wear our scars in the open. Nothing to hide. Another facet of living life as open and free as possible. It is also the most at risk for nudists because, despite all the other health problems clothing causes us, it does protect us from the sun. So what are nudists to do without it? Doesn’t it just add a burden? Not if we’re smart. First thing to do is use common sense. How often do we need to be outside and what are we doing outside? There is research out there that says we only need 20 minutes of sun a day to synthesize vitamin D, an essential vitamin that we use to absorb certain nutrients. What about longer periods of time? Then we do what we can. Sunscreen is usually at the top of the list. I can attest to it’s effectiveness after camping for multiple days before. Just remember to reapply regularly, as all people, even clothed, should. Carry a parasol or umbrella. Something I used to think had gone out of fashion is actually still around and thriving. It can be it’s own statement. It can also have a lot of other uses too. A towel can come in handy for quick cover. Drape it over the shoulders when we are feeling warm, wrap it around the waist when company comes over unexpectedly, or just hold it over one’s head until out of the sun. Most people won’t need anything for a quick dash between car and building. It’s not really enough time. But that’s not always the case. We’ve got to take care of our skin, it’s going to be with us for quite a while. What do you use to cover up while not “covering up?” Text by Made in the Nude.
