doomy:4thdslip:brodnork:why am i being threatenedTumblr is amazing. I’ve never seen another website whose advertisers fail this miserably to actually advertise anything, and yet, they still inadvertently manage to produce good content through the medium.i want everyone to know that the minimum budget for advertising on tumblr is $25,000I’m so confused. These ads must be working or people would stop buying them. Professionals put these together and implement them with a plan. So… what are these ads accomplishing? They’re not directly selling anything. They don’t say what company paid for them. They are often widely shared as screenshots, thus garnering “free advertising”, but in the screenshots you can’t click the ‘learn more’ button and have no way of obtaining information about the product, service or company. We’re at the point where normal advertising has gotten so meta it’s not easy to tell what counts as advertising any more, but even in this era of brand personalities and double bluffs, I can’t begin to guess what the purpose of this strategy is, nor why it’s apparently successful enough that people keep doing it. My only guess is that nobody’s bought this ad space and the Tumblr staff are making these baffling images in an attempt to be able to demonstrate the reach of ads on their platform to potential advertisers, but if that were the case, they’d bother to program a site that was actually good at advertising by doing things like making ads rebloggable. I’m stumped. -- source link
