azamikurotani: kerryrenaissance: suportal: This week’s current issue in mental health: the price of medication. With numerous people sharing stories about how medication was the first step when they were getting help, we wanted to point out how the cost of these treatments is prohibitive especially for people without insurance. Sometimes even with insurance it’s cost-prohibitive. Co-pays and 20% deductibles can eat you alive if something big hits you. insurance will also go out of their way to cockblock you in any way possible, whether it’s deciding they dont want to cover a certain rx (even if it’s generic) or that they only want to fill a 30 day supply when you’ve been given a prescription to fill for 60-90 days. that means going back to the psych for another visit (and another copay) earlier than expected and for some people that $25-50 can make or break their budget when they are living paycheck to paycheck. thats a pretty stressful situation in general. now add on the stress of having a mental illness. now add on the stress of having a mental illness that isnt being medicated or treated properly. for what its worth there are ways to get your prescriptions for cheaper. many manufacturers have a coupon of sorts that lets you get your meds for signifcantly cheaper. for example latuda runs about $1k for 30 day supply of the lowest dose. even with insurance i was paying $300. on their site they offer a discount that lets you pay less than $30. no one tells you this. its up to us to find out, and sometimes its hard for people struggling with mental illness to fight up the energy to do their research on shit like this. even if you do have insurance, ALWAYS check the manufacturer’s website for a coupon. there are also other programs like goodrx and a few others. mental healthcare is a joke and no one is going to look out for us but ourselves and each other. pls spread the info about manufacturer’s coupons and goodrx and any other programs you know of. -- source link
