My father was in the lumber business, he revered RBW - he could discern an authentic Royal Barry Wills design vs a fake from a mile away. Dad taught me how to spot the subtle details that mattered: roof pitch, 12/12 windows, center chimneys, multiple ells, attached outbuildings, narrow clapboards and wood shakes on the roof. Royal Barry Wills - and his influence - is single handedly responsible for the architectural style you see on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod. Royal Barry Wills was architectural “royalty” in our family.
