ancientart:The colossal head and arm of Zeus, found at Aigeira, Achaia.Pausanias tells us (in the 2nd century BC) that the statue was carved by the Athenian sculptor Eukleides, who was active in the second half of the 2nd century BC. The eyes were originally made of a different material and inlaid into the marble. The left hand is shown, which would have originally held the god’s sceptre.Courtesy & currently located at the National Archaeological Museum, Athens. Photos taken by Ian Scott. -- source link
