lamus-dworski:Examples of a podłaźniczka, one of the the oldest types of Christmas decorations in Poland predating the Christmas Trees. It’s prepared out of tied branches or a treetop of a fir, spruce or pine tree, and hangs down from the ceiling, usually above the dining table. It used to be the main element of decoration before the modern Christmas Trees became popular. Traditional adornments tied around its branches were: ornaments made of straw and paper, nuts and fruits (most commonly apples symbolizing good health), later also gingerbread cookies, crocheted ornaments or small globular forms made of thin wafers called “światy” (worlds). In some regions of Poland podłaźniczka was called “boże drzewko” (God’s tree or divine tree). Sources of pictures: [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ][Christmas in Poland tag] -- source link
