But the ancients might have been looking at something quite different. New imaging techniques and archaeological finds show more and more traces of polychromy or colored pigments. While not all statues may have been painted, some (such as this head of Hades) were painted with bright colors that do not gibe with modern ideas of a classical aesthetic.
