lebedame-wegelagerin:I finally finished my new early 1800s Waistcoat! I wouldn’t call it historically accurate, but at least I’d dub it historically plausible. It’s completely hand-sewn and I strictly followed historical Construction-Techniques to my best Knowledge. All the Fabric is 100 % Cotton, as are the Threads and the Lacing on the Back. I had started it shortly before Christmas last Year and worked on it every now and then, when I got to it.The only Thing off about it are the Buttons. They are Dorset Buttons, which in this Case means, they have a metal Ring as a Mold, which then was wrapped completeley by Thread. I also embroidered a little Flower on each of the Buttons. I found the Design here. The Buttons are “off” in so far, that Embroidery on Dorset Buttons is not accounted for historically. Even though theoretically all the Materials and Techniques were there around 1800 and we even have extant Waistcoats from Decades before with Dorset Wheel Buttons and Waistcoats with embroidered Buttons – yet no embroidered Dorset Buttons. So what I meant with ‘historically plausible’ is, it is nothing that existed like that, but is (in my Opinion) still close enough to historical Reality that it doesn’t look wrong or out of Place. Which is why I decided to go for it and also I really liked how those different Colours looked together.I like it! The buttons are fun and unexpected, and the pockets look really nice and smooth. -- source link
