multifandom-madnesss:A closer look at the beat that has the entire fandom going crazy. So, let’s talk about the beat. A beat in scriptwriting is a pause in dialogue and it is always intentional guys, so yeah, we’re not just losing it over nothing. In this scene, Metatron reveals his grand plan to Gadreel, explaining how he set Castiel up to be the villain with Metatron opposing him as the Underdog. Now that Castiel’s weakness has been revealed, he lost his followers. And his true weakness? “He’s in love… With humanity.”I’ve seen a lot of posts about how this is a metaphor. Dean, as a hardworking, loyal and very very flawed man, is the embodiment of humanity. Thus, what Metatron is actually saying is that Castiel is in love with Dean. Let’s take a step back. Let’s talk subtext. Castiel fell for Dean. Profound bond. Personal space. “I always come when you call.” But this episode adds more than that: Castiel was programmed to kill Dean but did not in the end. The angel that tells Castiel to “punish” Dean in 9x22 is reminiscent of Naomi in that she, too, is wearing a grey suit. And, as this anon pointed out, Castiel was the only one who could make the spell work. Maybe the third ingredient was love? Love for humanity (a human, the human) as the only thing that can cast the Host out of Heaven?“Your character may surprise you,” Metatron said to Cas.PLUS: Castiel’s Heaven has loads of symbolism in there, including an Angel blowing a horn, a dog on a cloud and PIE (or a plate of sth… the caps aren’t totally clear - source). What all this might meanI have to admit, I didn’t believe in Destiel becoming canon until today. I feared the show was queerbaiting us, using the power this ship has to keep us watching. BUT. Metatron called Dean and Sam “the Hardy Boys” in this episode. Then, Osric tweeted about how he thinks Cas would prefer the older one. Also, the cast told us that the finale will surprise us - that they didn’t think the show would go there… (can’t find the compilation sry)As I said in the beginning, beats are always intentional. And I’m guessing the cast and crew have very strict rules about what they are allowed to tweet and say about unaired episodes. So. This all (and loads more) points in one direction. Destiel becoming canon…. One last clue We knew that we’d get season 10 but it took a long time for Misha Collins to be confirmed as a regular. My theory is that, given that Cas’ vessel will burn out with his borrowed grace, the plan might be to let Castiel die in the season finale, probably playing a major part in defeating Metatron as he does so. However, his death, if it happens, won’t be permanent because Misha will return to the show. Maybe something clever will allow Castiel to survive. And let’s not forget the promo for 9x23 suggests that Dean is on his own, drowning in bloodlust. So we might get a big confrontation in which Sam and Castiel manage to talk Dean down from something (I’m really worried about Sam given the nature of the first blade and the general brother/family issue this season) and in the course of which, Cas’ feeling might play an important role and might be revealed. Revealed as in CANON. Not subtext. I’m just hoping that the show runners have the balls to do it, to take the only step left in terms of character development. They won’t rip apart the brothers (or if they do, I will be devastated). And we have been told again and again how close Dean and Cas are. They can’t get much closer than this unless it turns romantic. So please, dear writers, follow the course the story wants to take. It would be brave and brilliant. -- source link
