The guy helping to organize 8 Can’t Wait was on The Lovett or Leave It podcast. He said “8 Can’t Wait” was never meant as an alternative to defunding police. 8 Can’t Wait can be put in place immedialy while the fight to defund policing will likely take a bit longer - hence the name. Defunding isn’t just about slashing police budgets. It’s about reallocating resources and responsibilities to people better equipped to deal with the problems rather than sending in an officer with a badge and a gun.
