18th Century Quack Medicine: Perkin’s Tractors,Sold throughout the late 1700’s, Perkin’s tractors are so ridiculously simple one would wonder who would be duped by them. Yet they were one of the most popular quack medical devices in Colonial America. An invention of Elisha Perkins, Perkins tractors were merely a set of iron and brass rods which the user rubbed over his or her skin to “draw out noxious electrical fluid that lay at the root of suffering”.
