prettyarbitrary:wilwheaton:micdotcom:Senate Republicans’ Obamacare repeal bill may be flatliningHours after a CBO report concluded the Senate health care bill would kick 22 million people off of insurance, defections among the party caucus in the Senate may doom the bill from ever reaching a vote.Vox policy reporter Dylann Scott tweeted on Monday evening he had heard that senators such as Rand Paul, Dean Heller and Susan Collins were all opposed to a motion to start debate on the bill as proposed.According to Politico, Sen. Ron Johnson has also “signaled” opposition to the procedural vote, while other senators including Shelley Moore Capito and Marco Rubio were “undecided.” Read more (6/27/17)Democrats, the American Medical Association and US bishops blast the Senate health care bill After the CBO report, several Democratic Senators and Congresspeople took to Twitter to deride the Republican health care plan.On Monday, the American Medical Association also announced it strongly opposed the Senate’s health care proposal.Additionally, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced in a statement shared to Twitter that the Senate bill was “unacceptable.” Read more (6/27/17)Keep calling. Keep showing up at the capitol. Keep protesting. Keep the pressure on, because literally millions of people’s lives depend on it.They’re going into recess after this, so now is the time to ride their asses. Make their phones ring off the hook. Swarm the townhalls. Schedule meetings at their home offices, so many that they and their staff barely have time for anything else. Senators can’t gerrymander their districts. Let them know their careers are on the line here.Important thing to note*: A lot (more than usual I should say) of these cowards are now doing “tele-townhalls” where they contact “random” members of their constituency over the phone with an option to join in on a conference call style meeting. I’ve sat in on a lot of these as a silent 3rd party lately for work and they are a sea of back-patting and soft ball questions with zero dissension. Obviously they’ve got a lot more control over who shows up and what they have to hear in this format, BUT, since these are technically open to the public, if you contact your senator’s office and ask about any town hall meetings including the phone ones, they have to give you the date, time, phone number, and access code to join the townhall.I would suggest that if you don’t have major issues with the phone, make sure you can’t get in on these town halls. Don’t let them hide away from their actual constituents’ actual opinions on their shitty behavior behind this bullshit tactic. They think if they avoid easy access town halls then they won’t face angry constituents and that people will forget their shitty voting record/actions come election time. Make them know that they can’t get away with supporting horrible legislation and not facing the consequences now and in future. *if anyone wants further details on the conference call style town halls etc. drop me an ask and I’ll do a post with more info. -- source link
