turnipfritters:rowantheexplorer:Seriously, there are SO MANY of us on the left in southern states. When Trump and the Republicans say that if voting access was easier, they’d never win again? We’re who they’re talking about. The same motherfuckers have had an iron-fisted control of our legislatures, our courts, and our electoral college votes since before the Civil War. Sometimes they’ve called themselves Democrats, sometimes Republicans, but it’s been the same guys for 200 years. They now call their slave plantations “private prisons,” but it’s all the same old shit. The US labor movement began in rural company towns, farmer’s cooperatives, and Appalachian coal mines, but y'all don’t wanna hear that. No, you’d rather just insult millions of oppressed people with jokes about illiteracy, Evangelicalism, and inbreeding. Did it not occur to you that those are inflicted purposefully by the people in power? That the moment even more than a handful of us down here manage to get educated and organized, we’re way harder to control? The people of the South need your support, not your derision. Help us organize, help us educate, help us get people to the polls, or you will never see your precious “blue wave.”i think it’d be very cool and sexy if aspiring leftists put in the effort to help build strong working class movements in the south, an region that is historically Very Poor and Very Black and Very Old instead of not doing that and signaling that you don’t give a shit about the south unless they can help you win an election.this goes triple for all these shitty podcasters and supposed leftist thought leaders who seem to know the One Weird Trick To Winning Any Election By A Landslide, maybe y’all should have gotten your asses out of Brooklyn and postponed your Ivy League speaking events and helped lead the revolution in Mississippi instead. -- source link
