Whywould you butter your cob with anything other than this Russel Wright corn set? National Corn on the Cob Day gives us the opportunity to share with you this inspired set which includes a butter pitcher, salt and pepper shakers and a cobaltglass bottomed tray.RusselWright, American Designer, is perhaps best known for his colorful and iconic American Modern Dinnerware– considered the most widely sold American ceramic dinnerware in history. Hiswork brought the “good design for everyone” philosophy to the dinner table through his embrace ofmodernity and the American home from thelate 20s-early 60s. Accordingto the NYTimes “nothing seemsto sum up Wright’s American-ness better than the four-piece set ofchromium-plated brass pieces from the mid-1930’s. At first glance, one ispuzzled by the function of the long-spouted pitcher and its two round butdifferently sized shakers all placed on a tray. The accompanying label describesit as a “Corn Set.” The pitcher is for melted butter, and Wright had decidedthat most people use more salt than pepper when eating corn on the cob.” A truevisionary.Youcan visit Russel Wright’s estate and modernist home, Manitoga,in Garrison, NY. It is one of the few 20th century modern homes open to thepublic in New York State. Meanwhile, you can visit this particular work and many others by Wright in our LuceVisible Storage Center.Posted by Jessica Palmieri -- source link
