This is Pablo Picasso’s painting “The Blue Room.” Created in 1901, the piece is one of the his first masterpieces. He painted the image in Paris, during his famous “blue period.” Since at least the 1950s, art historians have suspected that he painted it on top of a different, original painting. But it is only with modern technology that they have been able to prove it. X-Rays in the 1990s revealed an image was definitely there, but all they could prove was fuzzy. Now, art experts at the Phillips Collection in Washington used improved infrared imagery to reveal a bearded man wearing a jacket and bow tie, resting his face on his hand with three rings. -- source link
