Three people total disagreed with them that whitewashing lions was racist. While I didn’t disagree with them flatly, I told them that lions technically don’t have a race and 90% of the 94 cast were white voice actors, and that this brand of finger pointing makes the fandom more toxic and takes the joy out of humanizing the lions and they hid the comments to where I couldn’t explain. While I do agree that they’re in Africa, 2+2=4, this is making a mountain out of a molehill. Yes, systemic racism is a huge problem. But in fandom spaces, if people are drawing for the sake of having fun, don’t go picking fights. Just because they’re drawing the lions white doesn’t automatically make them white supremacists. This fear of being called racist or cultural appropriation for attempting to draw POC causes this backlash. It’s pointless finger pointing and makes the fandom worse. -- source link
