The Tunguska Event was the largest impact in recorded human history. On June 30, 1908, there was a large explosion above the Podkamennaya Tunguska River, in Russia. It was about 1,000 times the impact of the atomic bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The force knocked down about 2,150 square kilometers of forest in Siberia. Most of the scientific community agrees that the blast was caused by a meteor exploding in mid-air. (They used to think it was just a regular meteor, but since no one has been able to find the crater, that was ruled out.) This explanation has not stopped many conspiracy theorists from coming up with alternative explanations, including but not limited to aliens, secret societies, and time travelers. -- source link
