dialmformara:solar-citrus:I’ve been going to anime/comic conventions for eight years, yet I still can’t explain what the significance of conventions are to people without having to go through a 20 minute explanation. It’s truly a life changing experience, I can tell you that for sure!! Here’s just a small example, but when I was younger I thought I was the only person on this planet that used Deviantart, until I attended Sakura Con. I ended up collecting over 50 business cards that had their DA links that year, and I thought that was the just coolest thing to know that I was not alone. Countless other moments had occurred that year where I met more and more people who knew of and appreciated the same things that I did. So I hope most of you can relate to that feeling of absolute bliss and joy of attending a con. uvuWhy do you like conventions? I’d love to hear your stories!!It’s like the best parts of the internet but irl. Remember what a disaster everyone said Dashcon was? It wasn’t for me, because I:1. was on 2 successful panels2. Got to see my sister do a third successful panel3. Hang out with a friend I’d never met irl before, who I’d done a crafting trade with that got me a major part of a cosplay4. Cosplayed with other people5. Got to discuss Homestuck with people while I was in the middle of binge-reading it6. Participated in a fan reading of the Welcome to Night Vale 2-year anniversary special as my favorite character7. Was finally in a place irl where I felt like I belonged, after two decades of mostly the opposite, and the amount of mismanagement that happened at Dashcon was not enough to harm that in any way.@dialmformara (this is Fyo by the way) I remember all this!!! It was so much fun and it wasn’t a disaster for me either, it was one of my favorite experiences.Me at Dashcon: 1. Got to meet my friend as mentioned above2. Met Doug Jones, who is absolutely lovely and a wonderful man3. Spent two nights on my own for the first time. 4. Read as Carlos the Scientist on the Night Vale panel. Three years later and I still remember the audience’s reaction to my big line about being a scientist not a hero. -- source link
